Firefighter/Paramedic

Earn $66,839 - $88,832/yr

The Firefighter position involves responding to fires, medical emergencies, and other incidents to protect lives and property. Duties include fire suppression, EMS, rescue operations, equipment maintenance, and public safety education, requiring teamwork and physical fitness.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education and Certification:

    • High school diploma or GED.

    • EMT-P certification (or ability to obtain by appointment) and maintain as a condition of employment.

    • State-Certified Professional Firefighter certification required within one year of hire.

  • Driver’s License:

    • Valid driver’s license with a clean record (no felonies or six-point actions in the past three years).

    • Must obtain an Ohio driver’s license within 30 days of appointment.

  • Residency: Must reside in Portage County or an adjacent county in Ohio within 360 days of hire.

  • Physical and Medical Fitness:

    • Good physical condition, including vision, hearing, and the ability to work in confined spaces, heights, and smoke-filled areas.

    • Able to wear 50+ lbs. of gear and work 24-hour shifts in various conditions.

  • Skills and Work Environment:

    • Strong judgment, mechanical aptitude, and ability to follow instructions.

    • Comfortable working in dangerous conditions, climbing ladders, and operating large apparatus.

    • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
